Russell Bldg., Special Collections Libraries, Auditorium Special Information: Reception follows at 4:30 p.m. Guest speaker David Hurst Thomas has served as curator of anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York since 1972, and, for seven years, served as the chairman of the Department of Anthropology. Thomas has conducted archaeological research on St. Catherine's Island since 1974. His talk will center on the hybrid Mississippian-Franciscan communities that actually existed on the Georgia Coast – long before Oglethorpe.
