Whose Team Are You On? The Braves, Mascots and Public Opinion

Flier
-
The Pinnacle Room, Baldwin Hall 480

The 2021 World Series Win brought the Braves back into the National spotlight, with renewed calls by Native advocates to change their name and practices. The Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) and Washington Redskins (now Commanders) both changed their branding in the past decade. Why not the Braves or the Kansas City Chiefs? Elise Blasingame, PhD Candidate in SPIA and INAS Graduate Certificate Student will present her dissertation research on how the public feels about changing these mascots and branding, and how identity and state-Tribal politics play a major role in changing hearts and minds. Please join the Institute of Native American Studies (INAS) for this talk on Feb 24 at noon.
