The National Park Service has not had a director since the Obama administration. The new nominee faces challenges, but Biden's nomination of a Native American sets a crucial precedent for both the Park Service and tribal citizens in the US. After Deb Haaland became the first Native American Secretary of the Interior, the US is poised to appoint another Native American to oversee the use and care of federal lands.
