US Native Population Growth Defies Erasure

The 2020 Census shows that the Native American population in the United States has grown by more than 27% since 2010. While many Americans view genuine native cultures as a thing of the past, Native Americans have continued to assert their sovereignty and rights as tribal citizens. Erasing American Indians from both history and the present is nothing new. Native journalist Levi Rickert writes, "With our growing population, our voices must be amplified with concerted outrage to stop the politics of erasing Native people and our culture."
