For decades, people have wrongfully believed that 80% of the world’s remaining biodiversity is protected by Indigenous peoples. This statement claims that Indigenous communities play “essential roles" in conserving biodiversity, however the 80% claim is simply wrong. This data can be very misleading and undermine conservation efforts.
