Sequoyah is a legendary Cherokee who created the Cherokee language syllabary. The new documentary Searching for Sequoyah - premiering on PBS stations across the US this month, traces his mysterious history.

Hastings College of Law was founded by Serranus Hastings. Hastings was also the mastermind behind systematic Native American massacres during and after the California Gold Rush. Native communities, school administrators, and alumni are at loggerheads about next steps.

Searching for Sequoyah is the first documentary feature to chronicle the legendary accomplishments and mysterious death of the famed Cherokee visionary, Sequoyah, whose English name was George Guess.

Decatur Council unanimously voted to remove a cannon tied to the 1836 Indian War from a city square where it has resided for more than a century. "Public art should unite and heal us instead of sowing division," said Phillip Cuffey of the Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights.
